KT’s ‘compensation beyond terms and conditions’… Is there a plan to reduce telecommunication charges?

It seems that the push to change the terms and conditions will be strengthened… Under the current terms and conditions, it is not applicable

KT network failure “Card payment is not possible”

(Gurye = Yonhap News) Reporter Jang Ah-reum = On the morning of the 25th, as the KT Internet network was disrupted nationwide for over an hour, a notice was posted at the entrance of a restaurant in Masan-myeon, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do, saying ‘Card payment is not possible due to a computer network error’. 2021.10.25 areum@yna.co.kr

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Yoon-ju = KT[030200]Attention is focused on what level of compensation it will offer for the nationwide communication failure accident that occurred on the 25th of this month.

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT (Ministry of Science and ICT) on the 29th, KT plans to operate a report center that receives damage reports from next week.

The damage report center is expected to be operated by receiving reports directly or by tracking reports received at the call center and calling the victim in reverse to understand the situation.

In addition to the specific damage compensation plan, KT should also promote discussions about changing the terms and conditions.

At the time of the fire in the communication area of KT Ahyeon Guksa that occurred in 2018, KT reduced communication charges for one month to users and provided subsidies of up to 1.2 million won to small business owners.

Contrary to the fact that the damage caused by the accident in 2018 was limited to some areas in the metropolitan area, it is observed that the amount of compensation for damage should be similar to or larger than that at the time, considering that this Internet failure occurred at a nationwide level.

To this end, KT has to change the terms and conditions or pay compensation regardless of the standards under the current terms and conditions.

According to the current KT terms and conditions, users must experience disability for 3 hours a day, 6 hours cumulative for a month to receive compensation. This internet failure, which lasted about 89 minutes, does not fall under the terms and conditions.

In this regard, some point out that it is not appropriate to maintain the compensation standard under the terms and conditions for nearly 20 years, but in the era of data communication.

In a meeting with reporters on the 28th, CEO Koo also agreed with this point, saying, “In the current non-face-to-face society, where there are a lot of services that depend on communication, I think it is desirable that the (contents of the terms and conditions) also need to be improved.”
