KT’s Internet failure continues to cause damage… Correction of “DDoS → setting error” (2nd comprehensive report) – Sciencetimes

From 11:20 am on the 25th KT[030200]’s wired and wireless Internet service was interrupted for about 40 minutes.

As a result, subscribers across the country experienced great inconvenience in using Internet services.

The service was disrupted throughout KT’s Internet, from Internet searches to securities trading systems, payment systems in stores, and corporate business systems.

In the process, some subscribers were unable to make regular phone calls, and the disability spread. The customer center was also not connected, which added to customer inconvenience.

Most of the Internet services returned to normal around noon that day, but recovery was delayed in some areas.

At the beginning of the incident, KT pointed to the DDoS attack as the cause, but after about two hours, corrected its position that it was a failure due to a setting error.

In the second notice, KT said, “Initially, it was assumed that it was DDoS due to traffic overload, but after a close inspection, we found that a routing (network route setting) error was the cause.” .

He also apologized for any inconvenience caused to the public due to communication problems.

This is a correction of what KT said in the first notice, “It is understood that a large-scale DDoS attack occurred on the network around 11 am.” At the time, KT said, “The crisis management committee is immediately activated and is being taken promptly. We will do our best for a quick recovery.”
