High Court issues notice to producers of ‘Kurup Movie’ starring Dulquer Salmaan as Sukumara Kurup. The action is on a public interest petition against the screening of the film. The film is set to release in theaters around the world tomorrow. In addition to the manufacturers, Interpol and the Central and State Governments have notices.

The petitioner contends that the film violates the privacy of the accused Sukumara Kurup and his family. The petition was filed by a resident of Ernakulam. However, the court did not accept the demand to stay the screening of the film. Dulquer had said that they had anticipated the possibility of the film causing controversy even during the deliberations of Kurup. Criticism was high on social media against the special t-shirt released by the line-up as part of the film’s promotion. At the heart of the criticism was the promotion method, which glorifies an offender.

But Dulquar and director Srinath Rajendran had said that the film was not something that would glorify Kurup. “The main decision of all of us was not to glorify Kurup. That was the one thing we focused on the most. We did a lot of editing, but it’s a big budget film. “There are a lot of eras and characters of different ages, there are stories and fiction heard, real names are not used. My request is to see it as a film. I have not done any other films for a year for Kurup.
