Regarding the resignation of the standing member of the National Election Commission, Jo Hae-ju, after a controversy over ‘tricks’ to extend his term, on the 24th, Kwon Young-se, head of the Election Countermeasures Headquarters for People’s Power, said, “President Moon Jae-in, who was only focused on extending the government, gave up on fair election management and gave up on ‘Johae-ju’. Through this, the government once again planned the election,” he criticized.

Director Kwon said, “The Moon Jae-in administration’s omni-directional election plan is habitual and chronic.” He added, “Eight out of nine members, including Election Commission Chairman Roh Jeong-hee, are all-female, but even one of the opposition recommendation members is currently vacant due to the opposition of the Democratic Party. He criticized the composition of the National Election Commission. He then demanded that “President Moon take seriously the significance of the unprecedented collective action at the National Election Commission for the first time in 60 years and immediately form a new cabinet with political neutrality and fairness guaranteed.”

Director Kwon specifically targeted the Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeon Jeon-cheol and Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye. “The former minister, who is directly related to the presidential election, is taking the lead in the monetary election by fully supporting Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung’s national disaster relief promise,” he said. “Secretary Park is leading public security elections with a biased prosecution investigation,” he said. Director Kwon added, “There were cases where Moon Jae-in, a former Blue House vice minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Park Jin-kyu, and Vice Minister of Gender Equality and Family, Kim Gyeong-sun, were accused of supporting the Democratic Party’s promises and serving as Captain Lee Jae-myung.”

Standing member Cho, who had previously expressed his resignation ahead of the expiration of his term of office (3 years), rejected the request by President Moon and tried to maintain his position as a non-standing member for three more years. The next day, the non-executive member of the Moon Sang-bu, who recommended the People’s Power, which was controversial because of his history of joining the opposition party, also voluntarily resigned from his candidacy. Director Kwon emphasized, “In the next 44 days (at the presidential election), the people will judge the unprecedentedly biased attempt to plan an election with government authority through a regime change, even in a stadium like this.”
