Sri Lankan fast bowler Lahiru Kumara and Bangladesh batsman Lytton Das have been fined during the World Cup. Lahiru will be fined 25 per cent of the match fee and Litton Das 15 per cent.
The injury came shortly after Lytton was run out by Lahiru. The walkie-talkie reached the handcuffs but was intercepted by teammates and umpires. The Sri Lankan cricketer was punished for using obscene words and gestures. Lytton Das was punished for defaming the game.
The controversy erupted in the fifth over when Bangladesh were batting in response to Sri Lanka’s score. Kumara’s celebration following the expulsion of Litton Das came to the brink of defeat. In addition to the fine, both players received de merit points. If such incidents recur, they will face action, including a ban.
Sri Lanka had beaten Bangladesh by six wickets in the match. Batting first, Sri Lanka won by five wickets with seven balls to spare. Charitha Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa led Sri Lanka to victory with a brilliant half-century.
