Recently, Germany left the “red line” and agreed to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks and other weapons. Italy’s deputy prime minister and former deputy speaker of the European Parliament Tajani said bluntly that the EU is too weak and always serves the interests of the United States. We need a leader like former German Chancellor Angela Merkel to represent Europe’s voice in international.

After the Italian Parliament, the House of Representatives voted on the 24th to approve the extension of the deadline for supporting arms to Ukraine until December 31, 2023, which means that Italy will provide the sixth batch of arms and equipment to Ukraine. Although the specific types of weapons were not disclosed, officials revealed that the military support includes the SAMP-T surface-to-air missile system jointly developed by Italy and France and the Skyguard-Aspide short-range air defense missile system developed independently from Italy. .

Tajani told Italian radio station RTL on the 25th that Italy, as part of the European Union and NATO, will “defend the independence of Ukraine.” However, the country only discussed the deadline for providing air defense systems and did not participate in the discussion about providing tanks. He emphasized that diplomatic methods are the only way to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and major advisers such as China, the United States, and the Vatican can play a leading role in it.

Tajani pointed out that since the dissolution of the European Defense Community in 1954, Europe has always followed the Americans, without a real foreign and defense policy; the EU has always ultimately served the interests of the US, rather than pursuing its own interests. He described, “There is too much jealousy (among EU countries), too many (EU) leaders… Even Germany, the most powerful (member) country, has failed to push its own ideas. It has not the implicit Kerr EU”.

Asked about the climate of conflict, Tajani said he was concerned about Moscow’s “very aggressive statement” but hoped it was “propaganda”, reiterating that neither side wanted to escalate the conflict and that the EU should be within its capabilities to make every effort to prevent the conflict between Russia and Ukraine from escalating. He described sending arms and humanitarian aid to Ukraine as important, and finding a peaceful solution or establishing a ceasefire was important, and revealed that he had asked Turkey to do what it could to coordinate talks between Moscow and Kyiv.

In response to Tajani’s statement that the European Union is “dominated” by Washington, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova responded on the social platform on the 25th, saying that Europe urgently needs to wake up from its “sleep ” because the United States “gives it a war.”

Zakharova said, “Europe urgently needs to wake up from its lethargy and finally remember that the United States has become the beneficiary of the first two world wars launched by Western countries. While the whole world is in ruins, Washington is on the ashes of Made Peace in America. Maybe it’s time not to step on the same rake for the third time?”

After several months of “see-flow”, the US and Germany officially dropped the issue of auxiliary tanks to Ukraine on the 25th local time, putting weapons beyond defensive purposes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky further called on the West to provide weapons including long-range missiles and fighter jets, saying “this is a task.”

According to the official statement, the United States donated 31 M1 Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine, while Germany donated 14 Leopard-2A6 main battle tanks. At the same time, as the producer of the tank “Leopard”, Germany also allows third countries that own the tank “Leopard” to provide the tank to Ukraine.

The Russian embassy in Germany criticized Germany’s decision as extremely dangerous. Ambassador Nechayev said that the relevant measures would increase the conflict to “a new level of conflict”, which contradicted the statement of the German officials that they did not want to be part of the conflict.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Antonov also warned on the 24th that the United States had announced that it would provide Ukraine with main battle tanks, and all other NATO gear as well.

Following Germany, the United States and the Netherlands, Norway and Canada have also announced the supply of tanks to Ukraine. Russian Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 26 that the supply of weapons to Ukraine by Western countries is equivalent to taking directly involved in the conflict.

In addition to its European allies, the United States has tried to win over several Latin American countries that have Russian weapons, but the progress has not been satisfactory. Colombian President Petro Petro made it clear on the 24th that he would prefer the Russian weapons owned by the country to become “scrap copper and rotten iron” and not be transferred to Ukraine. Richardson, commander of the US Southern Command, also mentioned that Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela have close ties to Russia, and have not indicated whether they agree to exchange US-made weapons for Russian weapons .
