Lee Geun goes to Korea for treatment… “I will go back to Ukraine”

Former Captain Lee Geun (38), who served as a volunteer in the Ukrainian War, will return home soon. On the 19th (local time), the Ukrainian International Brigade announced through a social network service (SNS) that former Captain Lee would temporarily return to Korea for treatment.

On that day, the Ukraine International Brigade said, “Our brother and friend with a gun, Captain Ken Lee (former Captain Lee English name) was wounded on the battlefield. He was treated by Ukrainian army medical staff, but he will return to his country for rehabilitation.”

However, he explained that former Captain Lee did not completely complete his service in the International Corps.

The Ukrainian International Brigade said, “He will resume his service soon. He will come back to defend the Ukrainian people as soon as possible.”

“Ken, thank you for your support. We are looking forward to your recovery and return.”

Earlier, in a post on the 14th, the manager of the YouTube channel ‘ROKSEAL’ operated by former Captain Lee said, “Captain Lee Geun was recently injured while commanding a special reconnaissance mission in the enemy territory.”

Former Captain Lee himself announced the injury through an interview with Ukrainian media on the 14th.

Former Captain Lee said, “We carried out the operation in southern Ukraine. My team is still on duty there, but I was injured in the last operation and will spend a few days in a military hospital.”

He continued, “Each country has different laws, but Korean laws are very strange. So when I return, the government will try to arrest me at the airport just because I took part in this war.”

“I plan to receive several letters (petitions) from the Ukrainian government,” he said.

Former Captain Lee said, “I already have a lawyer and I am going to go to jail, but I still believe I made the right decision. I am here and I am contributing to the war. I am happy to fight alongside the Ukrainians.”

“Lee Geun-eun is the operational leader”, a high-ranking Ukrainian official

Earlier, a high-ranking Ukrainian government official mentioned Lee as an ‘operational leader’ and became a topic of discussion. This person also said that it is likely that former Captain Lee will be arrested immediately upon returning to Korea.

Interior Minister Anton Gerashenko tweeted, “From what I heard, Lee seems to be a famous blogger in Korea. He is saying that South Korea is barring its citizens from entering Ukraine, so he will be arrested if he returns home.”

He said, “Ken Lee is a former South Korean special forces fighter, now a fighter in Ukraine’s International Corps.” He said, “I heard that the Ukrainian military placed him as an operational leader because of his special operational experience and gave him a lot of discretion in the mission against the Russian army.” he introduced

He also attached an English article from a Korean media containing an interview with former Captain Lee and the local weekly Novoye Bremia.

Aide Gerashenko also introduced several photos, including a picture of former Captain Lee serving as a volunteer.

Meanwhile, the Korean government has banned Koreans from traveling to Ukraine since mid-February. The former captain has been charged with violating the passport law.
