Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung announced his intention to resign as governor of Gyeonggi Province. Candidate Lee’s resignation was most likely this week, but it is predicted that the timing of his resignation will be pushed back to next weekend as the meeting for ‘receiving Lee Nak-yeon’ could not be made.

Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon also expressed skepticism, saying, “It’s not easy to meet this weekend.”

Candidate Lee paid a visit to the May 18th National Cemetery in Buk-gu, Gwangju on the 22nd and said, “I will do it soon” regarding the timing of resignation as governor. This is the first time that candidate Lee has announced his intention to resign as governor in public.

Initially, Lee’s side had planned to resign as governor early and focus on the presidential election. The timing of his resignation was most likely between the 22nd and 24th after the Gyeonggi state audit was over. Democratic leadership also wants Lee to resign early and focus on the presidential election.

However, Lee’s side is of the view that the timing needs to be adjusted in a situation where the meeting with former CEO Lee did not take place.

In particular, Lee’s side, who wants former president Lee to join the presidential campaign, seems to try not to stimulate the opponent’s emotions as much as possible.

Regarding his intention to visit former CEO Lee directly after resigning as governor on that day, Candidate Lee declined to comment, saying, “The matter is under discussion, so it would be good to keep an eye on it.”

Candidate Lee wants to have a meeting with former CEO Lee this weekend. It is known that the discussions between the two sides will be conducted by Democratic Party lawmaker Jeong Seong-ho on Lee’s side and Democratic Party lawmaker Park Kwang-on on Lee’s side.

Conflict between the two sides over the content of the Lee Jae-myung-Lee Nak-yeon call

Candidate Lee and former representative Lee, however, also had friction on the 21st, just one day before. This is because the opinions of the two sides were divided over the media reports that Candidate Lee and former CEO Lee talked on the phone.

On the 21st, one media reported that, borrowing the words of an official from Lee’s side, “Lee and former CEO Lee had a phone call on the 20th, during a state audit in Gyeonggi-do, and former CEO Lee said, ‘I will take on any role’.

Regarding this, former representative Lee protested, calling it “misinformation.” It is said that former CEO Lee also expressed displeasure after hearing the news.

Lee’s side is of the opinion that a ‘weekend meeting’ between Candidate Lee and former CEO Lee is difficult to achieve. Even if they meet in a situation where the suspicion of preferential treatment for development in Daejang-dong does not subside, the cause of the original team is not good.

In a phone call on the 22nd, a lawmaker from Lee’s side said, “Governor Jae-myung Lee puts meaning only on the formal meeting itself and needs a photo, but from our point of view, we have nothing to say even if we meet on the weekend.” It seems like he is trying to do it, but isn’t it the first thing that candidate Lee Jae-myung persuades his supporters who do not support him and raises suspicions?”
