‘Legendary boxer’ Jang Jung-gu sent to prosecutors for assaulting taxi driver

Former World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight champion Jang Jung-gu (58) has been handed over to prosecutors.

The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the morning of the 25th that it had applied the charge of assaulting a driver under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (Special Price Act) and forwarded the case to Jang with an opinion of indictment.

Jang is accused of assaulting a taxi driver while getting out of a taxi while intoxicated around 9 p.m. in August.

Jang became the WBC Light Flyweight Champion in 1983 and defended his reputation until 1988, and in 2009 was the first Korean to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF).
