Folk Song Writer Arumukhan Venkitang Passes Away at 65

Thrissur, Kerala –

The folk music industry mourns the loss of Arumukhan Venkitang, a talented film lyricist and folk song writer, who sadly passed away at the age of 65. Renowned for his exceptional creativity, Venkitang was known for penning the majority of the soulful folk songs sung by the famous actor and singer Kalabhavan Mani. With an impressive repertoire of around 350 folk songs to his credit, he played a pivotal role in shaping the musical identity of Mani’s career, composing approximately two hundred songs for the beloved artist.

A few of his notable compositions, including “Minnaminge Minnum Minunge,” “Going to Chalakudy Market,” and “Working All Day,” became instant hits and contributed greatly to Kalabhavan Mani’s popularity.

Aside from his collaborations with Mani, Arumukhan Venkitang also made his mark in the film industry by writing songs for various movies. Noteworthy among his filmography are the three beautiful compositions in the 1998 film “Kodungallurambalamthil” by Meenakshi Kalyanam, in addition to “Ee Elavathur Kayalin” featured in “Meesamadhavan” and “Udayon.”

His talents extended beyond the realm of film and folk music, as he also composed several devotional songs and albums that touched the hearts of many. His contributions to the realm of music are unparalleled and will be cherished by generations to come.

Born to Sankaran and Kali in Venkitang, Thrissur district, Arumukhan ventured into the world of music by composing songs for entertainment groups and country music festivals. He leaves behind his loving wife, Ammini, and his children, Sini, Siju, Shiny, Shine, Shinoy, and Kannan Palazhi. He will be dearly missed by his nephews, Vijayan, Shima, Shaji, Ambili, Sati, and Ramya.

The funeral service to bid him farewell will be held on Tuesday at 3 o’clock in Enama.

Thrissur: Film lyricist and folk song writer Arumukhan Venkitang (65) passed away. He was the author of most of the folk songs sung by actor and singer Kalabhavan Mani and wrote about 350 folk songs. Arumukhan Kalabhavan composed about two hundred songs for Mani. Minnaminge minnum minunge, going to Chalakudy market, working all day… he was the one who composed many popular songs like Kalabhavan Mani.

He has also written songs for films. Arumukhan composed three songs in the 1998 film ‘Kodungallurambalamthil’ by Meenakshi Kalyanam, ‘Ee Elavathur Kayalin’ by Meesamadhavan and Udayon. He also composed many devotional songs and albums.
