(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Bae Jin-nam = Ulsan Hyundai has won the match between the top teams in Korean and Japanese professional football this season and turned on the green light for advancing to the 2022 Asian Football Federation (AFC) Champions League (ACL) round of 16.

Ulsan won 3-2 by scoring goals from Leonardo, Wonsang Um, and Baco in the group I match against Kawasaki Frontale (Japan) held at the Hassan Yunos Stadium in Tan Sri Dato, Johor Bahru, Malaysia on the 27th.

In particular, Leonardo was involved in all the goalscoring of Ulsan with one goal and two assists and became the leading player in the victory.

As a result, Ulsan, who defeated Guangzhou FC (China) 3-0, 5-0 in the 3rd and 4th games, even beat Kawasaki to run 3 straight wins.

In addition, Ulsan, which has reached the mark of 10 points (3 wins, 1 draws and 1 loss), has risen to the top of the group for once, beating Kawasaki (8 points, 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss), which suffered its first defeat in the tournament.

Malaysia’s Johor Darul Takjim (points 7, 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss), who will face Guangzhou FC (China), which has been eliminated after losing 4 matches, is currently in third place. If Johor beats Guangzhou to equal Ulsan and Ulsan, Johor, who won the match with Ulsan 2-1, takes the lead with the winner.

Ulsan can advance to the round of 16 as group leader if they insult Johrwa Chi in the final group stage match on the 30th.

The top 10 teams in the group stage advance directly to the round of 16. Among the second-placed teams in each group, the top three teams from East Asia (Groups F-J) and West Asia (Groups A-E) will additionally join the round of 16.

Ulsan lost to Kawasaki in the first half.

In the 7th minute of the first half, center defender Kim Young-kwon’s pass mistake gave Kawasaki Leandro Damien a decisive opportunity, but the shot flew over the post and swept the chest.

Ulsan changed the mood with Leonardo’s one shot in the 14th minute of the first half. After receiving the ball from Leonardo, Baco broke through the opponent’s defense and rushed into the goal area, and the ball with his right foot was blocked by Kawasaki goalkeeper Jeong Seong-ryong. However, Leonardo kicked the ball again with his left foot to open the goal.

Ulsan, who had risen in momentum, took another step forward with an additional goal by Wonsang Um six minutes later. In the opposing midfield half, Leonardo poked the ball forward, and Wonsang Eom drove the ball to the right of the goal area and finished with a right footed shot.

Kawasaki immediately counterattacked and Marcinho fired a right-footed shot from the front, but goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo caught it.

Ulsan, leading by two goals, seemed to focus on defense by lowering the line afterward.

Then, Kawasaki’s relentless offensive gave up a goal in the 40th minute of the first half. After Shogo Taniguchi’s cross was headered by Marcinho on the left, Damien from the other side shook the Ulsan net with a right-footed non-stop shot.

Ulsan, who finished the first half with a one-goal lead, fled again two minutes after the start of the second half.

This time, with Leonardo’s help, Barco’s left footed shot from the left side of the goal area passed through the crotch of Kawasaki goalkeeper Jeong Seong-ryong and entered the goal.

Ulsan did not slow down the offensive even after 5 minutes of the second half, as the ball shot with his left foot from the right side of the penalty tee by Uhm Won-sang slightly deviated from the goal post.

In the 24th minute of the second half, Lee Kyu-seong was removed, and Won Doo-jae was brought in, and 2 minutes later, Lee Cheong-yong and Bako were called in, and Yoon Il-rok and Amano Jun were sent out to rearrange the ranks.

At the end of the second half, Leonardo and Um Won-sang, who had a lot of activity, were replaced by Mark Costa and Oh In-pyo.

Ulsan allowed one more goal for Damien in the second half, but the lead kept the lead to the end.
