Less than five hours of sleep? Learning that chronic diseases remain at fifty – Sleep | Health

Cancers await those who sleep five hours or less a day in their fifties, according to a study. A study in Britain has shown that people who sleep seven hours are more likely to have two or more cancers during middle age. The study report shows that problems such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke and arthritis will come in the future for those who do not sleep properly.

The research was carried out by researchers at University College London. Poor sleeping habits increase the risk of cancer by 20 percent, researchers say. In the 50s, 60s and 70s, sleeping less than five hours a day can increase the risk of various lung diseases by 30-40 percent. The study, published in the journal PLoS Medicine, adds that sleep deprivation also increases the risk of premature death.

The research team also looked to see if sleeping more than 9 hours could affect health in any way. But there was no concrete evidence about it. Severine Sabia, who led the research, recommends that seven to eight hours of sleep a day is best for health.
