Robert Lewandowski (34, Poland, Bayern Munich) was named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

Lewandowski was named Player of the Year at the awards ceremony held in Zurich, Switzerland on the 18th, beating out Lionel Messi (35, Paris Saint-Germain) and Mohammed Salah (30, Egypt, Liverpool) after last year.

Lewandowski scored 43 goals in the German Bundesliga in 2021, breaking Gerd Muller’s 1972 Bundesliga record for most goals (42 goals) in 49 years. “I never thought I could score so many goals in the Bundesliga just a few years ago,” he said. It was almost impossible. I am very honored to receive this award.”

Lewandowski earned a total of 48 points, including the results of the FIFA member national team coach, captain, media, and fan voting, beating Messi (44 points) and Salah (39 points).

Lewandowski took second place after Messi at the ‘Ballon d’Or’ awards ceremony hosted by French Football magazine in November of last year. FIFA Player of the Year and Ballon d’Or were integrated from 2010 to 2015, but were separated again in 2016. Cristiano Ronaldo (37, Portugal, Manchester United) received a special award for scoring 112 goals, the most in A-match.

Alexia Putellas (28, Spain) was selected as the female player of the year. The best manager award went to Chelsea male and female coaches Thomas Tuchel (49, Germany) and Emma Hayes (46, England).

The Pushkasi Award for the best goal went to Eric Lamela (30, Sevilla, Argentina). Lamela scored a goal against Arsenal in March last year while playing for Tottenham with a ‘Ravona Kick’ that crossed her left foot behind her right foot.
