Lim Chang-soo, from ‘Next’, died in a motorcycle accident in Da Lat, Vietnam

Guitarist Lim Chang-soo (54), who worked with the late Shin Hae-chul in the second season of ‘Next’, died in a motorcycle accident in Dalat, Vietnam.

On the 28th, composer and teacher Kang Ho-jeong announced the death of Lim Chang-soo on his Facebook page, saying, “My dear younger brother Lim Chang-soo died in a car accident while riding a motorcycle in Vietnam.”

Amid the news of his death, a wave of memorials honoring the soul of the deceased continues, such as “absurd and futile”, “unbelievable” and “I hope you are playing with the late Shin Hae-chul”. The late Shin Hae-chul died in 2014 due to a medical accident.

The accident happened around 2:30am on the 25th in Dalat, a resort city in Lam Dong Province, Vietnam. After crashing into a telephone pole while riding a motorcycle, Lim Chang-soo was taken to a general hospital, but died from serious injuries.

According to local media, including Vietnam’s state-run VTV, the motorcycle the deceased was riding was so badly mangled that it could not be identified. His identity was belatedly confirmed when the medical staff who kept his ID gave him to the authorities a day later.

In 1994, Lim Chang-soo was responsible for playing guitar in the band Next’s second album ‘The Return Of N.ES.T Part 1: The Being’, and was active as Next’s second group. He next appeared in 1992 with their 1st album ‘Home’ and was active until 1997 before disbanding. They regrouped in 2002 and were active until 2019.

The next 2nd album includes ‘Double Personality’, ‘The Dreamer’, ‘Fly Chick’ and ‘The Ocean: About Immortality’, and is considered one of the masterpieces of Korean popular music history.

When he was unable to play the guitar due to a hand injury, he founded EGO System, later a company of computer audio equipment and electronic musical instruments, and showed his ability as a businessman.

Meanwhile, broadcaster Noh Hong-cheol was seriously injured when he collided with a motorbike in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam last month.

In Vietnam, where motorcycles are the main mode of transportation, tourists often rent motorcycles and drive. However, due to unfamiliarity with local traffic laws, accidents often occur, so caution is required.
