[アンカラ 20日 ロイター] – Two weeks after Turkey’s deadliest earthquake in modern history killed tens of thousands, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey near the Syrian border on Thursday.

Two Reuters reporters said the shaking was strong and lasted a long time, damaging buildings. The epicenter was near Antakya in Hatay province in southern Turkey, and tremors were felt in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.

The earthquake left several people trapped under rubble and is believed to have injured at least eight others.

After a series of small aftershocks over the past two weeks, Saturday’s earthquake was the strongest since Saturday.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Agency (AFAD) has warned people to stay away from the Mediterranean coast, as the earthquake could raise the water level by 50 centimetres.
