Details of the Ransom Incident
On June 9, 2022, a group of armed men attacked and abducted Mr. Ji (alias) from a villa in Rangae District, Narathiwat Province. They took him into custody in a room where they subjected him to severe physical violence and torture, resulting in serious injuries. The assailants then contacted the victim’s relatives and demanded a ransom of 500,000 baht for his release. They threatened to harm the victim further, even cutting off his ears with scissors or killing him, if their demands were not met.
After negotiating with the gang, the victim’s relatives agreed to pay 300,000 baht initially, with the remaining amount to be paid later. The exchange was arranged and the money was delivered at the Klok checkpoint in Narathiwat province on September 12, 2022. Upon receiving the payment, the gang released Mr. Ji about 3 kilometers away from his house.
However, even after his release, the gang continued to make threats and demanded the remaining 200,000 baht. Fearing for his safety, Mr. Ji decided to report the matter to the Rangae Police Station in Narathiwat Province. However, as the progress of the case was unsatisfactory, he sought assistance from the Police Department.
