According to a New York Post report, the seven-member gang carried out the robbery in January 2020 in Hartford, Connecticut. They used the Apple Watch to track down the drug dealer. The Apple Watch was placed under the bonnet of the victim’s car. He then tracked down the car using an iPhone and chased it into a hotel room and stole the money.
After chasing the car, one of the robbers smashed the car’s window with a gun, hoping to find a bag containing $ 500,000 in cash. But they could not find anything inside the car. “All of this information was found using detailed cell site location data, including the Apple Watch and the defendant’s phone,” prosecutors wrote.

Federal prosecutors say the leader of the robbery gang first bought an Apple Watch and linked it to his AT&T account. The Apple Watch was kept under the victim’s car bumper. The incident happened in January 2020, at which time the Apple Watch was the only device that could be used to track people. Apple Airtags, designed specifically to monitor people, were not launched at the time.
