Kannur: The vehicles of the house of PP Jabir, the accused in the Panoor Mansoor murder case and CPM local leader, were set on fire. PP Jabir, CPM Peringalam local committee member and Vallukandi branch secretary, is the 10th accused in the case. The attack took place at Jabir’s house in Peedika, Vallukandi. The back of the house was on fire. The car and two two-wheeler parked in the shed were completely burnt down.

The incident took place just after 1.30 pm last night. Chokli police and fire service put out the fire. The family was fleeing when they saw the fire spreading in the shed behind the house. The fire did not spread inside the house as firefighters arrived immediately to put out the blaze.

The CPM alleges that a League activist was behind the attack. Police have not yet been able to nab Jabir in the Mansoor murder case. He is still at large. Apart from Jabir, the accused are CPM Peringalam local secretary N.K. Anoop, Pullukkara branch committee members Nasser and Ibrahim are also absconding.

Mansoor, a Panoor Muslim League activist, was killed on the night of polling on April 6. Mansoor, who was critically injured in an attack by CPM activists in connection with the assembly elections in the state, was later admitted to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. There are 25 accused in the case. Meanwhile, Ratheesh Kuloth, a resident of Kochi, was found dead on suspicion of involvement in the murder. He had been in hiding after the murder and was found hanging.

So far, eight accused have been arrested in the case. CPM activists K Sangeeth (22) of Ochirakkal house in Pullukkara Kochiyangadi, Nelliyil Sreerag (25) of Pullukara, KP Suhail (32) of Kayathil Parambath in Mukil Pidikayil in Pullukara, Olthiyoth Ochiyoth (38) of Mullayil Ashwanth (27) of Ochirakkal Peedika in Ochirakkal Peedika (28) and EK Bijesh (37), son of a boy from Pullukara Mukil Pidika are in custody.
