Malaysia’s Kim Pangon-ho beat Thailand 1-0 in the first leg of the Southeast Asian Cup semi-finals

Malaysia’s national football team, led by coach Kim Pan-gon, defeated ‘defending champions’ Thailand in the first leg of the Southeast Asian Cup semi-finals.

Malaysia won 1-0 in the home match against Thailand in the first leg of the quarter-finals yesterday (7th) at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Malaysia, who won the tournament for the first time in 2010, will challenge for the second championship of her career with coach Kim Pan-gon, who took the helm early last year.

Malaysia scored the opening goal in the 11th minute of the first half against Thailand, the most successful team in the tournament (6 times).

Faisal Halim, who is 160 cm tall, was hit by a team-mate’s header from a long ball from the back and passed to himself.

After that, Malaysia, who thwarted Thailand’s ferocious counter-attack without conceding a goal, were in an advantageous position to advance to the final.

Both teams will play the second leg on the 10th at Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani, Thailand.
