Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee has secured a landslide victory in the Bhawanipur by-election. Mamata Banerjee secured the chief ministership with a majority of 58,389 votes. The BJP candidate got 24,936 votes. Mamata Banerjee got the highest majority in Bhawanipur constituency.
Election Commission bans victory celebrations in Bengal The state government was instructed not to allow jubilation. The Election Commission also directed that strict security measures be put in place to prevent violence.
In Jankipur and Shamsherganj, the Trinamool candidates are leading. Mamata Banerjee, who lost the election in Nandigram, had to be elected as an MLA within six months to continue as chief minister.
In the last assembly elections, Trinamool’s Sobandeb Chattopadhyay won in Bhavanipur by 29,000 votes. The MLA was resigning for Mamata Banerjee.
