Garnazzo scored the winning goal in the 17th minute and Cristiano Ronaldo provided the assist.
Manchester United were tied with Real Sociedad with 5 wins and 1 loss and 15 points, but finished second in the group stage by one goal on goal difference.
In the Europa League, the top 8 teams in each group progress directly to the round of 16.
The eight teams that come second in the group will play against the eight teams that come third in the Champions League group stage for a ticket to the round of 16.
As a result, Real Sociedad went straight into the round of 16 as group leaders, and United were pushed into the play-offs.
