Manager Park Hang-seo, strong dissatisfaction with referee’s decision, “We need to introduce VAR”

Suzuki Cup semi-final first leg 0-2 defeat to Thailand

Vietnam’s national football team coach Park Hang-seo, who lost the first match of the Suzuki Cup semi-finals of the ‘Southeast Asia World Cup’ and became uncertain about advancing to the final, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the referee’s decision.

Vietnam lost to Thailand 0-2 in the first leg of the 2020 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Championship (Suzuki Cup) at the Kallang National Stadium in Singapore on the 23rd (local time).

The second round of the semi-finals will be held at the same location on the 26th at 9:30 pm. The team that wins the first and second rounds will advance to the finals.

Vietnam, who was dragged by conceding two goals in the first half alone, bowed their heads in bad luck twice afterward.

However, manager Park expressed strong dissatisfaction with some of the absurd decisions after the match. “I don’t want to comment further on the referee,” he said at a press conference after the match. You will know better. But if the opportunity arises, the referee should watch the game again.”

On that day, referee Saud Adba from Qatar rarely fouled Thailand’s tough fight.

In particular, at the end of the game, there was a situation in which Vietnam’s penalty kick was suspected, but the referee continued the game as it was.

Manager Park said, “The majority of soccer players are now using VAR. The Suzuki Cup needs VAR to reduce controversy. I hope to introduce it next time.”

Vietnam, the team that won the previous competition in 2018, is aiming to win the Suzuki Cup for the second time in a row and three times in their career.
