Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford tweets Romelu Lukaku’s story after Champions League draw

Manchester United will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League once again this season.

The two teams, which were drawn into Group H alongside RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir, had already met in the 2018-19 round of 16.

United were flying under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the time, but at home they broke free against Parisians, who recorded a 2-0 first leg win at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils weren’t given a chance away at Parc des Princes, but Romelu Lukaku’s second-minute goal gave them some hope.

That hope then vanished when Juan Bernat scored 10 minutes later, only for Lukaku who scored his second goal of the evening in the half hour.

No other goals were scored until the fourth minute of injury time, when Man Utd were awarded a controversial penalty.

Marcus Rashford stepped forward and, well, the rest is history.

It remains arguably the best night of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

After United drew PSG in Thursday’s group stage draw, Rashford – the hero of that unforgettable night in March 2019 – tweeted a story about his former teammate Lukaku.

“Let me tell you a little story about @ RomeluLukaku9,” Rashford began.

“We play for PSG in the return of the Champions League, with little hope of qualification. 2-0 on the adj. 2 minutes, Rom scores. 30 minutes, Rom scores. We need another goal to qualify. 94 min – penalty …

“Rom approaches, takes the ball and passes it to me. He knew this was my moment. He knew I was going to get all the news for scoring that penalty and he agreed, ignoring the fact that he was the most instrumental part of that victory.

“This tells you everything you need to know about @ RomeluLukaku9. Selfless, a team player … He is never afraid to dim his light to make others shine. This is my brother and I appreciate that.”

A class message from a classy person.

Rashford paid tribute to Lukaku, another hero of that night in Paris, after receiving so much attention after Thursday’s draw.

Lukaku responded to Rashford with his tweet shortly after.

“My brother for life!” wrote the Inter forward. “What a great moment bro one of the best nights of my career! As we said before the game, we were about to qualify the team! My partner ???. “

Lovely stuff.

Neither player will ever forget that famous victory, and neither will Man Utd fans.
