NetEase Games’ team-based action hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, is preparing players for the upcoming release of Avengers: Doomsday with a series of in-game events, including the somewhat unexpected addition of YouTube clips.
The “Path to Doomsday” initiative, launched on April 29, 2026, will feature content themed around each film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers series, beginning with 2012’s The Avengers, according to reporting from Gizmodo.
In-Game Theater and Photo Opportunities
As part of the rollout, the game’s free-roam lobby map, Times Square, will be transformed into an in-game theater and photo opportunity area for the next month. Players can watch a highlight reel of scenes from the climactic New York fight scene from the first Avengers film.

players will have access to “quasi photo booths” allowing them to recreate moments from the film using their customized character skins. However, the game will not allow players to swap characters from the Rivals roster into these scenes.
New Skins and PvP Mode
Beyond the cinematic additions, Marvel Rivals is also introducing new content more typical of a game update. This includes Marvel Cinematic Universe-inspired skins for Loki and Iron Man, based on their appearances in The Avengers.
A new asymmetrical PvP mode will also be available, pitting teams of Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye against a single player controlling Loki as a boss-sized character.
A Unique Approach to Movie Promotion
The inclusion of YouTube clips as part of the promotional campaign has drawn attention, as it represents an unconventional method of building hype for Avengers: Doomsday. Rather than focusing solely on gameplay additions, NetEase is encouraging players to engage with the source material directly within the game environment.
The “Path to Doomsday” initiative aims to count down to the arrival of the new film with themed content drops, suggesting a sustained promotional effort within Marvel Rivals leading up to the movie’s release.
