Mascherano to coach national team

Javier Mascherano, former captain of the Argentine national team, is set to become the coach of the Argentine Under-20 national team. There has been no official confirmation of this, but some Argentine media are reporting it. Fernando Batista is currently coaching Argentina’s Under-20 team. It is reported that Batista will step down soon and Mascherano will replace him.

He made his national team debut in 2003, wearing the Argentine jersey for 147 matches. He also played for clubs such as Liverpool and Barcelona. Mascherano has retired from international football following his quarter-final defeat in the 2018 World Cup. He retired from club football last year.
