Jaipur: A fire broke out at the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Monday evening, spreading to more areas. The fire, which broke out in a forested area, has already spread to more than 10 square kilometers, national media reported, citing officials.

Areas around 1,800 football fields have already been gutted. The fire was not extinguished for more than 24 hours and could not be prevented from spreading to more places. Forest officials said the fire affected the movement of tigers in the area. There are more than twenty tigers in the Sariska Tiger Reserve.

The fire affected the habitat of ST-17 and two tiger cubs. Authorities say they are concerned about the safety of the tiger and its cubs. More than 200 people, including rangers and firefighters, are working to bring the situation under control, officials said. Villagers living in the vicinity of the blaze have been asked to evacuate to a safer location, officials said. In addition to the two Indian Air Force helicopters, two Army helicopters are on fire.
