Red Bull Honda F1 Max Verstappen feels that the title race would not have been entangled until the final race without a major crash at the F1 British Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen won his first F1 driver’s title in the final lap of the final round. A restart with new software prevented Lewis Hamilton from winning his eighth F1 World Champion.
For most of the season, Max Verstappen was at the top of the drivers’ championship, but some important moments brought Verstappen and Hamilton back into battle.
Christian Horner, Red Bull F1 team representative, gave some decisive moments in the title battle. First of all, I chose the 6th round Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which was hit by a flat tire while Max Verstappen was leading the race.
Lewis Hamilton went straight to the runoff due to a misoperation of “brake magic” in the restart after the incident, and Sergio Perez won the victory.
Christian Horner also chose the F1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone as an “important moment.” Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton collided in copse on the opening lap, plunging Verstappen into the barrier and recording a 51G impact.
“There were some big moments,” Christian Horner told GP Fans.
“French and Austrian doubleheader wins and streak wins were important. Then there was a moment when we had to make up like Azerbaijan.”
“A strong recovery was important, and Max did it. Then Silverstone was an important moment. Again, it was important how he recovered from it.”
Max Verstappen agreed with Christian Horner and named Silverstone as the most shackled race to win the title.
Without that incident, Max Verstappen believes the title battle would not have been entangled until the final round.
“Same as Christians. Headbutting a tire wall with Silverstone wasn’t great,” Max Verstappen said of an important moment of the season.
“It was an important moment, otherwise it would have been decided much earlier.”
“Especially late in the season, I was able to score additional points with unexpected wins, pole positions and even the fastest lap.”
“If you’re in a championship battle like us, that’s really important.”
