Maxwell again shrugs off Bangalore; In the decisive battle, Punjab set a target of 165 runs

Sharjah: Punjab Kings set a target of 165 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first match of the IPL today. Batting first, Bangalore scored 164 for seven.

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell scores a half-century for Bangalore. He hit 57 off 33 balls with four sixes and three fours. Devdutt Padikkal (40), Virat Kohli (25) and AB de Villiers (23) were the standout performers. Dan Christian (zero), Shahbaz Ahmed (eight) and George Gordon returned at the invitation.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to bat Openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal gave the team a good start. The duo added 68 runs in the opening over.

Moises Henriques then took two wickets in a row to hold Bangalore back. With Henriques taking one more wicket in his next over, RCB fell sharply from 68 not out to 73 for three. Maxwell and De Villiers, who later joined the crease, put the team on track.

RCB could not score more runs in the last over. Shami took three wickets in the last over.

For Punjab, Hendricks took three wickets for just 12 runs in four overs. Shami also took three wickets.
