Actor Namgoong-min won the grand prize and achieved the Grand Slam of the three terrestrial broadcasters.
On the afternoon of the 30th, the ‘2021 MBC Drama Awards’ was held at the MBC Public Hall in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The moderator was Kim Seong-ju.
The ‘2021 MBC Drama Awards’ are ‘Black Sun’, ‘Moebius: Black Sun’, ‘I have a goal’, ‘Red sleeves’, ‘Oh! This is the place to close down the MBC dramas that made viewers laugh and cry this year, such as ‘Master’, ‘Love Scene #’, ‘Check the event’, ‘If you don’t go crazy’, ‘Second Husband’, ‘Become Rice’.
The honor of the grand prize went to Namgoong-min of ‘Black Sun’.
Namgoong-min won the Grand Slam at MBC and achieved the Grand Slam, which received awards from all three terrestrial TV actors.
‘Black Sun’ tells the story of Han Ji-hyeok (Namgoong-min), the best field agent of the National Intelligence Service who went missing a year ago, and returns to the organization to find the insider traitor who dropped him into the abyss. Namgoong-min took on the role of Han Ji-hyeok, an on-site agent of the Heukyang Team, an unlicensed TF under the National Intelligence Service’s foreign intelligence agency, who inflicts retaliation on enemies in the play. Not only his appearance, but also his acting skills were impeccable. Namgoong-min approached the secret with a sharp sense and quick judgment in a situation where he did not know who was the enemy and who was the friend, and drew attention by expressing the character Han Ji-hyuk as it is. In particular, it ignited hope for MBC dramas, which have been neglected, such as recording the highest viewership rating of 9.8% (Nielsen Korea, nationwide) in two years.
After winning the trophy, Namgoong-min said, “It feels strange at the end of the year. It was a while ago, but I participated in the MBC Drama Awards here. I was so happy and happy just participating, but I congratulated the other actors and went back to bed alone. It felt a little daunting. I don’t know what that feels like,” he recalled from the past.
He continued, “Thank you for giving me such a big award after a long time. Writer Park Seok-ho, who started ‘Black Sun’. You worked so hard. Thank you. I think we talked on the phone. The director smiled energetically and led us on set, so I think it ended well.”
Namgoong-min also said, “‘Black Sun’ took a lot of time technically. A lot of time was wasted on one scene, and the experts did it together. I regretted what if there was a little more time after the middle part is over. It is thanks to the staff and actors who participated.”
He continued, “When I go out on set, I try to prepare thoroughly. But (when filming ‘Black Sun’), I had to do a lot of preparation, so I couldn’t prepare. It really gave me strength. I was very tired physically and mentally, but I think I was able to shoot with strength.”
Lastly, Namgoong-min said, “Arum-ah, thank you for always being by my side and I love you.”
The grand prize went back to ‘The Black Sun’, but the most winning work that day was ‘Red End of the Sleeve’. ‘Red End of the Sleeve’ is a record of a mournful court romance between a court lady who wanted to protect the life she chose and a king who put the country first over love. This work is based on the novel of the same name by Kang Mi-gang, who was very popular on Kakao Page.
Lee Jun-ho, who plays the role of Lee San, and Lee Se-young, who plays the role of Seong Deok-im, received the Best Actor and Actress awards side by side.
