Singer MC Mong (Shin Dong-hyun) was questioned while trying to leave the country with US$70,000 (about 86 million won) last month.
Recently, Incheon Customs regarded MC Mong as violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act and referred the case to the prosecution with an opinion of indictment. According to the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, you must report to the head of the competent customs office when you enter and leave the country with more than USD 10,000.
MC Mong said, “Three weeks ago, I tried to enter the country with $70,000 in staff expenses to film a documentary for 10 people including 4 staff members and a local U.S. staff. In the process, I accidentally failed to report the US$70,000.” He admitted to the allegations through SNS.
He also explained, “I made a mistake because I had to get on the plane in a hurry, and I tried to report it again, but there was no opportunity.” “All flights that day were canceled for fear of causing further misunderstanding,” he added.
He continued, “During the investigation process, it was said that there are no articles and that these things end with a fine, but I always felt uncomfortable. I am not writing this because I am afraid of avoiding mistakes or reprimanding me. I will live. I admit my mistake, so please refrain from interpreting it too much.”
MC Mong was accused of evading military service due to intentional tooth extraction in 2010. In May 2012, the Supreme Court was acquitted of the charge of evading military service, but for delaying military service by taking the civil service examination twice, the charge of obstructing the execution of official duties was applied, and the sentence was suspended for 6 months in prison and 1 year of probation. He was sentenced to 120 hours of community service.
