McDonald’s Korea uses discarded ingredients… Controversy spread by turning “employee’s fault”

It was revealed that at a McDonald’s Korea store, a sticker with an arbitrarily extended expiration date was re-applied to food materials that were to be discarded and reused. McDonald’s Korea made an official apology, but the controversy is growing by shifting responsibility for reusing food materials to the employee’s fault.

McDonald’s Korea said on the 4th, “As a result of an internal investigation, it was found that there were cases where stickers that had expired were reprinted and attached. This is due to a media report the day before that McDonald’s revealed that food ingredients, such as hamburger buns, which had passed their expiration date, were re-used by affixing stickers with the expiration date.

McDonald’s Korea said, “There was no instruction from the head office because it was caused by the wrong judgment of the employee.” McDonald’s Korea has been promoting the principle of immediately discarding expired products after the ‘hamburger disease’ (hemolytic uremic syndrome, HUS) incident with undercooked meat patties in 2017.
