Paris: India secured a medal in the Archery World Cup Stage Three. India secured the medal after reaching the final of the women’s recurve team event.

The team comprising Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhagat and Simranjeet Kaur advanced to the finals after defeating Ukraine, Britain and Turkey. In the qualifying round, India finished 13th. The Indian women started by beating Ukraine 5-1 (57-53, 57-54, 55-55). Against Britain (6-0) only four points were conceded (59-51, 59-51, 58-50).

India did not get off to the expected start in the semi-final against Turkey. The Turkish team of Gulnas Kozkun, SG Basaran and Yesamin Anagos put up a good fight. India chased down the Turks 5-3 (56-51, 57-56, 54-55, 55-55). India are also relieved to face South Korea in the final. In the second semi, Chinese Taipei defeated Korea. Chinese Taipei is led by Lee Chin Ying, the bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics. The final is on Sunday.

The Indian men’s recurve team was eliminated in the first round. The team of Tarundeep Roy, Jayant Talukdar and Praveen Jadhav lost 5-4 (53-57, 58-54, 49-53, 58-50) to Switzerland. The Swiss team of Florian Faber, Kesia Chabin and Thomas Roofer won the shootout. With the shoot-off (25-25) tied, Switzerland advanced on the accuracy of the arrows.
