Meeting with Japanese Ambassador Yoon Seok-yeol, “South Korea, the US and Japan need close cooperation” consensus

President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol met with Japanese Ambassador to Korea Koichi Aiboshi on the 28th to emphasize the restoration of Korea-Japan relations. If the bilateral relations are improved in a future-oriented way, difficult problems can be resolved through dialogue.

President-elect Yoon met with Ambassador Aiboshi at the reception room of the Presidential Transition Committee in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the same day.

President-elect Yoon said, “Korea and Japan are partners who share a number of cooperation tasks such as security and economic prosperity. “Let’s gather wisdom together,” he suggested.

“If the political leaders, bureaucrats, and people of both countries push forward the bilateral relations with strong power in a future-oriented way, other issues may seem difficult, but they can be resolved through dialogue,” said President-elect Yoon. President-elect Yoon also expressed gratitude for the congratulatory message from Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

“I was very grateful that the Prime Minister (Kishida) sent me a congratulatory message and called me directly when I was elected,” said President-elect Yoon, congratulating him. “I think that there must be an improvement in the relationship and that the good relationship as in the past should be urgently restored, and it will require a lot of effort from both sides,” he added.

In response, Ambassador Aiboshi said, “The call between Prime Minister Kishida and President-elect Yoon was done in a very good atmosphere, and we feel confident about it.”

The meeting between Yoon-elect and Ambassador Aiboshi was attended by Park Jin, Kim Seok-ki, and Cho Tae-yong, lawmakers of the People’s Power, Kim Seong-han, secretary of the Foreign Affairs and Security Division of the Incoming Committee, and Kim Eun-hye, the spokesperson for the elected president. On the Japanese side, Makoto Hayashi, Minister for Political Affairs at the Japanese Embassy in Korea, attended with Ambassador Aiboshi.
