Sashindra regained his memories and joined DPDO (Defence Pension Distribution Office). Sashindran is not without anything today. He is a millionaire. The DPDO officials welcomed him with a shawl and garland. ‘I have become a person because of you’ – said Sashindran with tears in his eyes. DPDO Senior Auditor Ajit Bhaskar and Auditor VK Mohandas took him for ‘identification’.

‘Manorama’ had reported yesterday that DPDO officers in Pavukkara Tamravel, west of Alappuzha Mannar, found veteran MG Saseendran (70), who was wandering the city alone, on after a long search, and that he is paying Rs 21.61 lakh as ex-servicemen pension for 16 years. It was through ‘Manorama’ that Sashindran came to know that he was to receive this amount.

Officers called him for checks before paying debts. Saseendron served as a driver in the Signal Corps in the Army. By the time he retired and came home, he had earned nothing of his own. Three sisters were married. Even marriage was forgotten because he was taking care of his family. Got a job at SBT later. Worked here for 12 years. He left the job due to persistent absenteeism. Later he became a truck driver. The memory faded while traveling.

He took refuge in the city of Kottayam. He ended up in various orphanages. It was in one of these centers that the warden realized that Sashindran was an ex-soldier. Later, they took him to the DPDO office. And then there was a race for documents. Aadhaar, PAN card, Regional Police Chief certificate… all arranged. Meanwhile, Sashindran disappeared again. Officers raided shelters in the area and found him at Kottayam Shanti Bhavan. She is currently staying at her sister Vilasini’s house. Saseendron’s decision is to deposit the money received in the bank.
