Mercedes F1, 2022 PU is rumored to increase horsepower with a new turbocharger[F1-Gate .com]

It is reported that the Mercedes F1 is increasing its horsepower by a turbocharger that introduced a new boost system in the power unit installed in the 2022 F1 machine “W13”.

The Italian version of Motorsport, which invited a new turbo specialist to assist in the design of the 2021 Constructor As Champion Mercedes F1 and F1 power units, reports.

According to the article, the new turbo configuration will probably “improve the quality of 6-cylinder and hybrid recharges, enabling more extreme strategies.”

From 2022, F1 machines will need to use E10 fuel, which is a mixture of fossil fuel and 10% ethanol, and the development of F1 engines will be frozen for three years.

E10 fuel is widely believed to cause a slight reduction in horsepower, but reports claim that Mercedes F1 is confident that it has made up for the 20 horsepower shortage caused by the switch to a new fuel. Ferrari F1 is reported to have done the same.

The Mercedes F1 exceeded the power unit engine limit for the first time in the turbo hybrid era in 2021, and both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were given a grid penalty later in the season.

Mercedes F1 team representative Toto Wolff lost to Red Bull Honda’s Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship not because of their F1 power unit, but because of the engine design.

Team Principal Toto Wolff said their power units weren’t due to the defeat of the Drivers’ Championship, but simply deteriorated faster than usual due to engine design quirks.

“I haven’t lost the championship because of the engine, but it’s true that the problem has occurred for the first time in eight years,” Toto Wolff told Auto Motor und Sport.

“Initially, a bad raw production process affected only one component, which led to an infectious disease in which the engine lost more power than before in running time.”

Mercedes announced the 2022 F1 machine “W13” at Silverstone on February 18th (Friday). It is believed that there will be an announcement of a shakedown. The team has already finished the first engine start of W13.

The 2022 pre-season test will be two three-day tests, the first from February 23-25 at the Catalonia Circuit in Barcelona and the second at the Bahrain International Circuit from March 11th. It will be held on the 13th and will start at the F1 Bahrain GP on March 20th.
