British daily The Telegraph reported on the 14th (local time) that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II sent a congratulatory message to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
According to this, Buckingham Palace, which is in charge of royal affairs, said that Queen Elizabeth sent a congratulatory message to Chairman Kim through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of the North Korean regime (September 9).
Earlier, the news was announced through the North Korean Central News Agency.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, the Queen’s congratulatory message contained the contents of the congratulatory message, “I wish good things in the future, just as the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea celebrate national holidays.”
The Queen’s celebration was not shared with the British press or on Buckingham Palace social media accounts. It is said that it is customary that the Queen’s key messages to foreign leaders are not made public.
Queen Elizabeth was previously known to have sent a message similar to this one on the day of the establishment of the North Korean regime, the Telegraph said.
Normally, the Queen acts on the advice of the British Foreign Office when it comes to foreign leaders.
Britain is one of the few Western countries that has diplomatic relations with North Korea.
Experts consider it unusual for North Korea to disclose the fact that the Queen of England sent a congratulatory message while North Korea was about to test a long-range cruise missile.
Aidan Foster Carter, a senior research fellow at the University of Leeds in the UK, who specializes in North Korea, said, “It is interesting that North Korea, in a difficult situation, is sending us a friendly gesture.”
“The key thing we need to know is exactly what has changed here,” he said.
But Edward Howell, a North Korean analyst at Oxford University, said: “The Queen’s congratulatory message underscores the fact that Britain has diplomatic relations with North Korea.
A spokesman for the British Foreign Ministry said, “As before, the Queen sent a message to the people on the occasion of the establishment of the North Korean regime.”
