Madrid: Barcelona will face La Liga for the first time in 17 years without Messi. The Catalans welcomed the new era by beating Real Sociedad by four goals to two. Martin Brathwaite, Gerard Pique and Sergio Roberto scored for Barcelona.
Gerard Pique scored the first goal of the season for the former champions in the 19th minute through a header. Brathwaite put the ball into the net in extra time of the first half. In the 59th minute, the player himself increased the lead of Barcelona to three.
But in the final ten minutes of the match, Sociedad shook Barcelona. Julen Lobete scored the first goal in the 82nd minute. Within three minutes, Michael O’Sullivan broke down Barcelona’s defense. The score is 3-2. Sergio Roberto’s goal in extra time secured Barcelona’s victory.
Tottenham, meanwhile, defeated defending champions Manchester City in the English Premier League. The victory was for an unbeaten goal. Sun Hyung Min scored the winning goal in the 55th minute. City dominated throughout the match.
