Microsoft Windows 10 update forces the installation of PC Health Check | iThome

In order to ensure that Windows 10 users’ PCs are compatible with Windows 11, Microsoft developed the PC Health Check to check whether the Windows 10 PC hardware is eligible to upgrade to Windows 11. Join without upgrading. However, some users feel that it takes some time to get rid of it.

KB5005463 is provided to PCs after Windows 10 2004, but it will not be installed on Windows 11 PCs.

According to Microsoft’s instructions, the role of the PC Health Check App is to check whether the Windows 10 PC software and hardware specifications meet the minimum requirements for upgrading Windows 11. In addition, there are functions such as cross-device backup, synchronization, checking the latest version of Windows 10, viewing battery and storage capacity, and managing boot time.

Microsoft reminds that after opening the PC Health Check App, it will automatically install important App updates, and users cannot turn off automatic updates.

According to Microsoft, users can find the Windows PC Health Check under “Apps”> “Apps and Features” to remove it. But there seems to be some minor problems.

Bleeping Computer reported that some users reported that after installing KB5005463, the PC Health Check will be installed repeatedly when Windows Update checks for the next update. If a user wants to remove the KB5005463 version, a message “KB5005463 update is not installed on this computer” appears in Windows.

Installing the PC Health Check App is actually harmless, but if the user really wants to remove it and does not want it to be installed again, the media has also found a solution. After removing the PC Health Check, open the registry editor, find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftPCHC, set the value of “PreviousUninstall” to 1, and it will not install again. But it seems that not all users can find this key.

In addition, Bleeping Computer also reminded that it is unknown whether this action will cause other unintended consequences.
