Kochi: Action against CITU leader Anil Kumar in Mini Cooper controversy. It was decided to cancel Anil Kumar’s party membership. The CPM Ernakulam district committee also decided to remove Anil Kumar from the CITU office after the controversy surrounding the purchase of a luxury car by the trade union leader. The committee which met today also decided to remove CPM MLA PV Sreenijan from the post of district sports council president.
Anil Kumar has already owned vehicles like Toyota Fortuner and Innova. Recently, Anil Kumar was involved in a controversy related to a Mini Cooper car worth Rs 52 lakh that he bought in his wife’s name. After the pictures of the vehicle were distributed, the matter was discussed in the party centres.
The requirement to live a simple life also applies to CITU leaders. The district committee also assessed that the purchase of a luxury vehicle and the justification for it had brought disrespect to the party. Anil Kumar is the state secretary of the Petroleum and Gas Workers Union.
At the same time, the dispute with former Sports Council president Mercy Kuttan and related controversies led to the CPM taking action against Kunnathunad MLA PV Sreenijan.
