Thiruvananthapuram: Minister AK Sasindran, who had earlier said that no case should be registered against R Babu and his associates from Malampuzha, Palakkad for encroaching on the reserve forest, has changed his stand. The minister was overthrown after legal experts and top forest officials advised him to go to court if the case was not registered.
The Palakkad District Committee of the Kerala Forest Protective Staff Association had publicly protested against the minister’s stand that the case would not be taken up. There are indications that the Forest Intelligence has warned that if no case is registered against Babu and his associates, such incidents will lead to legal issues in the future and the minister will be arrested.
Meanwhile, another local resident had climbed the hill the previous day and there was a discussion among the officials. Top officials believe that the encroachment of Babu and his gang into the forest was a security breach by the forest department. In this case, it is possible that action will be taken against the officers who were on duty that day.
