Ministry of Strategy and Finance expects 6.7 trillion won in lottery sales and 2.7 trillion won in lottery profits next year

[세종=뉴스핌] Reporter Jeong Seong-hoon = The government predicted 6.7 trillion won in sales of lottery tickets next year and 2.7 trillion won in profits from lottery sales.

On the morning of the 28th, 2nd Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Ando-Gul Ando presided over the ‘148th Lottery Committee’ and deliberated and decided on ▲ the 2023 lottery issuance plan (draft) ▲ the results of the 2021 lottery fund project performance evaluation.

First of all, the Lottery Commission set the next year’s lottery issuance to 7.6.1 trillion won, an increase of 354.6 billion (5.3%) compared to this year, based on the sales trend in the first quarter of last year and taking into account the normal operation of other banking industries due to the easing of quarantine measures. This is a 0.8%p decrease compared to last year’s increase of issuance amount (6.1%).

The expected lottery sales for next year are 6.742.9 trillion won, an increase of 352.6 billion won (5.5%) compared to this year, which is 1.4%p lower than the expected sales growth rate of this year (6.9%).

If the lottery tickets are sold according to the issuance plan, the proceeds from the lottery sales that will be used to finance next year’s lottery fund business will be about 2.739 trillion won. This is an increase of 138 billion won (5.3%) compared to this year.

The overall average score of the lottery fund project last year was 80.0, which was slightly improved (up 2.2 points) compared to the previous year (77.8 points).

By grade, out of 101 projects subject to evaluation, 2 very good, 58 excellent, 34 average, 6 poor, and 1 very poor. Compared with the previous year, the number of ‘excellent’ projects decreased (5 → 2), and the number of ‘excellent’ projects increased significantly (28 → 58) thanks to improvements in the execution rate of local governments.

Deputy Minister Ando-Gul Ahn said, “We plan to continue to strengthen performance management so that the lottery funds can be used rationally in the future, while finalizing a plan for distribution of lottery proceeds by reflecting the results of this performance evaluation.”

Meanwhile, the Lottery Commission will extend the electronic lottery (Powerball) lottery number disclosure cycle from the current 5 minutes to 6 hours from July 1 this year to prevent illegal sites from misusing the lottery lottery numbers. In addition, it was decided to promote the revision of the Lottery Act, which prohibits profit-making activities using lottery lottery numbers (imposing penalties for violations).
