On April 21, 2021, Microsoft reported on its official blog on the progress of Linux GUI application support for the next Windows 10. Support for Linux GUI applications was announced at Build 2020, which the company held in May 2020, and will run on windows 10 Insider Preview build 21364. The company named the solution “WSLg”.

In addition to supporting microphone and audio output, WSLg also supports GPU acceleration with the Mesa library. The above figure is an execution example of the robot simulation tool “Gazebo”, but Microsoft explains that it can be executed at 60 fps (frame rate). To try WSLg, you need to update your installed Linux distribution in addition to the latest Windows 10 and WSL 2 environments. The detailed procedure is explained on GitHub.
