A woman in her 20s showed symptoms of thrombosis after being vaccinated by the US Moderna NASA, and requested a test, but it is known that the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) refused to do so. The woman died 12 days after being vaccinated with Moderna.

According to Yonhap News on the 10th, a woman in her 20s living in Jeju received the Moderna vaccine at a consignment medical institution in the province on the 26th of last month. On the 31st of the same month, 5 days after the inoculation, he showed symptoms of thrombosis and underwent surgery at a general hospital in the province.

Accordingly, the Jeju-do broadcasting authorities requested a thrombocytopenic thrombosis (TTS) test to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to find out whether the severe adverse reaction to Mr. A was a reaction to moderna vaccination. However, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) is said to have rejected the request, saying Moderna is not subject to testing.

Thrombocytopenic thrombosis is a rare thrombosis such as cerebral vein sinus thrombosis and visceral vein thrombosis accompanied by thrombocytopenia. It is said to occur mainly in young women.

However, the World Health Organization (WHO) currently does not recognize thrombosis as a side effect of moderna vaccines. Accordingly, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) is conducting TTS testing only when suspicious symptoms appear after Astrana Janssen vaccination.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), the criteria for requesting a test are: ▲ TTS-suspected symptoms occur within 4 to 28 days after adenovector vaccine (AZ Janssen) inoculation ▲ Platelet count less than 150,000/μl ▲ D-dimer that can detect thrombosis ) elevated test level ▲ In case of a blood clot confirmed by imaging tests, etc.

According to Yonhap News, Mr. A is known to have met all other criteria except for the type of vaccine. However, as Mr. A died, it became more difficult to determine a causal relationship with the vaccination.

On the other hand, as Moderna’s reduction in the supply of COVID-19 vaccines has become a reality, it is expected that the domestic vaccine supply will become more difficult. Unlike Pfizer’s vaccine, Moderna’s vaccine has continued to change supply schedules and has continued to suffer from inability to meet supply.

Initially, the government planned to supply a total of 9.15 million doses of the Moderna vaccine in August. This is the addition of the 8.5 million doses that were originally scheduled to be supplied in August to the amount that was delayed to August due to production disruptions for the 650,000 doses of vaccine scheduled to be supplied in July.

However, according to the broadcasting authorities, Moderna unilaterally notified the government on the 6th that it would supply 8.5 million doses of the vaccine originally scheduled for August, less than half.

In response, the government announced that it could compensate for the disruption in the supply of moderna vaccines with other types of vaccines, but the trust in the supply and demand of vaccines has not been restored.
