(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Min-Jeong Cho = The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) announced on the 22nd that it has decided to designate 27 countries, including the UK, Spain, and Germany, as ‘Quarantine Management Areas’ for monkey pox starting in July.

Quarantine management areas are ‘areas recognized by the Commissioner of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) as needing special management’ and are a system for responding to quarantine by evaluating the level of risk by country for each infectious disease.

The global outbreak trend by infectious disease type is identified and designated on a semi-annual basis. When designated as a quarantine management area, various documents are requested at the quarantine stage, and if necessary, it is possible to request a departure or entry ban of inbound travelers.

On that day, the Quarantine Specialist Committee designated the entire world for COVID-19 and 27 countries for monkeypox as quarantine management areas.

In particular, for the UK, Spain, Germany, Portugal, and France, which are the top five countries with the highest incidence of monkey pox, they decided to strengthen surveillance by lowering the fever standard during quarantine to 37.3 degrees, lower than 37.5 degrees.

In addition, cholera 18 countries, polio 14 countries, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) 11 countries, yellow fever 43 countries, plague 2 countries, Ebola virus 1 country, animal influenza infection (AI) 9 regions in China, etc. designated as a region.

In the case of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and H1N1 influenza, there were no overseas cases within one year, so this time, they were excluded from the quarantine management area designation.

The quarantine management area designated this time will be enforced for six months from the 1st of next month.
