On the 26th, in front of the Swatch store in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, dozens of people lined up for ‘Open Run’. This is to purchase the ‘Moon Watch’ (MoonSwatch), the first collaboration product of Swatch Group’s watch brand Omega and Swatch.

Since that day, the Moonwatch, released in 110 stores around the world, is enjoying explosive popularity. There was a queue in front of Swatch stores not only in Korea, but also in Geneva, Switzerland, Milan, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, Japan, even before the opening.

The Moonwatch is a reinterpretation of Omega’s ‘Speedmaster Moonwatch’, which is priced at 7-9 million won, and is priced at 331,000 won. The moonwatch is famous for the watch worn by astronaut Neil Armstrong when he landed on the moon in 1969.

The appearance of the moonwatch is similar to that of the moonwatch. The OMEGA logo is engraved on the dial. The design consists of 11 collections using images of 11 planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto). The product is made of a new material that combines ceramic raw materials and biodegradable bioplastics.

As the out-of-stock crisis broke out, Swatch temporarily limited the quantity available for purchase. “Due to the unexpectedly explosive demand, Swatch has decided to limit the purchase of one watch per person until further notice,” Swatch said on its website. guided

“This watch is not a limited edition, and we plan to make it available for purchase through select Swatch stores in the near future.”

Then, it is traded at a premium in the second-hand market. On this day, on online second-hand trading (recell) platforms such as used country, carrot market, and lightning market, posts about purchasing a Moonwatch are being posted one after another. The price ranges from 50 to 100 million won. That’s hundreds of thousands of dollars more than the original price.

In Naver Resell Platform Cream, the resale price of some products reached 3 million won. The purchase price of the pink Merchant Venus (Venus) product immediately reached 2.99 million won. The previously agreed price was 120,000 won. A total of eight transactions were made for this product from the previous day to today.

Regarding this collaboration, Bloomberg News in the US said, “It is a unique strategy of the Swatch Group to induce new interest in its watches while enjoying luxury at an affordable price. It is trying to reverse the trend that watches with less than 650,000 won are struggling.”
