More and more Russian submarines in the Arctic

According to media reports, NATO is preparing for a conflict. Because again and again Russian nuclear submarines are registered near Norway.

Russia is increasing its presence in the Arctic and is always active there with its submarines. NATO sees this as a great danger, because the ships are apparently also sighted in the vicinity of important pipelines. Norway, which is now the largest gas supplier, is particularly affected by the maneuvers. That is why the USA and NATO are preparing for a conflict.

But it is not only the increased presence that worries the Norwegian military, the type of maneuver is also special. “We have seen that Russian submarines operate differently than ten years ago,” said Rear Admiral Rune Andersen. They are more aggressive and act unpredictably. Increasingly, there is a cat-and-mouse game in the Arctic with the Norwegian forces protecting pipelines and underwater cables.

Videos from the Royal Norwegian Airforce show a submarine’s periscope peeking out of the water. It is said to be Yasen-class and Borei-class submarines. Images of a Russian military maneuver in which Russian nuclear submarines broke through a meter-thick layer of ice only became public on Saturday. However, Norwegian Foreign Minister Huitfeldt emphasized that Norway was prepared for anything.
