Morning extraordinary cabinet meeting of the government… Considering steel and petrochemical business start-up orders

On the 8th, the government will hold a temporary cabinet meeting to discuss the issuance of an order to start additional work in relation to the collective refusal of transport by the Cargo Solidarity Headquarters of the public transport union of the Confederation of Korean Trade Unions (Cargo Solidarity).

The cabinet meeting will be presided over by Prime Minister Han Deok-soo at 9:30am on the same day at the Seoul Government Center.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, and Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jeong-shik are expected to be present.

It is known that the government is very likely to decide to issue an order to start additional operations in the steel and petrochemical sectors on the same day.

In a meeting with related ministries chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung-ho the previous day, the ministers agreed that an order was needed to start operations in these areas.

At the Cabinet meeting on the 29th of last month, the government issued the first business start order for those who refused to transport goods in the cement sector.

According to the Lorry Transport Business Act, the Minister for Lands, Infrastructure and Transport can order the start of a business if it is recognized that there is a risk of causing a very serious crisis to the national economy by greatly obstructing the transport of goods by refusing to transport goods together. transportation without justifiable grounds.

In order for the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to order the start of a business, it must go through consideration by the Council of State.
