He became interested in the activities of Shinjuku Metropolitan Tokyo High School, saying, “I like baseball and have a passion for it.”

Mr. Ichiro (Special Assistant to the President and Coach) of the Mariners visited Shinjuku Metropolitan High School (East Tokyo) on the 26th and 27th and gave guidance to the baseball club students. “I was interested, and I came because of my interest,” he said, making a surprise appearance. To the surprised students, he said, “Why, don’t you know, do you know (about yourself)?”

After teaching Chiben Wakayama High School in December 2020, Mr. Ichiro also with Kokugakuin Kugayama High School and Chiba Akinoku High School last year. This visit was prompted by his interest in the activities of Shinjuku Metropolitan Tokyo High School, saying, “I like baseball and I have a passion.”

In high school baseball, the team shape and goal setting varies depending on the school. Not all schools aim to win Koshien. Tokyo Shinjuku Metropolitan High School not only continues to play baseball, which they love, while working hard on their studies, but also enthusiastically works to popularize baseball among elementary school students.

Mr. decided Ichiro visited the school because he wanted to play baseball with the high school students who were working on different things in a limited period of time. Around 1:00 o’clock on the 26th, he suddenly appeared while we were having a meeting on the ground. I was confused at first, but then I asked the smiling students, “Why, you don’t understand, right? I came here because I was interested.”

He added, “Everyone studies hard. While studying hard, a child who likes baseball comes. Time is limited to play baseball while studying. The earth is also limited in terms of space. All I can do is play our own baseball, but everyone is passionate about promoting baseball in the community.

Over a period of two days, they demonstrated batting and other instructions. With serious guidance, when I knocked a total of 170 balls into the six students, the students jumped in many times, and their uniforms were black with dirt. In the future, as much time as possible, he would like to visit high school students who work hard with a passion for baseball.
