Suspected Heatstroke Incident Under Investigation
On the afternoon of the 19th, Fuchu City’s fire department received a distress call from Fuchu High School reporting multiple construction workers feeling unwell. The Metropolitan Police Department also confirmed the incident.
Five male workers aged between their 20s and 40s were transported to the hospital after complaining of health issues. Among them, a man in his 20s was found unconscious and required immediate medical attention.
The workers were engaged in renovation work inside the school’s gymnasium and started experiencing discomfort upon exiting the premises. Swift action was taken by the authorities as they arrived at the scene.
The gym’s interior temperature was recorded to be considerably high when law enforcement personnel responded, prompting a detailed investigation focused on the possibility of heatstroke.
With the mercury reaching a scorching 33.2 degrees Celsius in Fuchu City by 2:00 pm on the same day, the extreme weather conditions may have contributed to this unfortunate incident.
Around noon on the 19th, the fire department received a call from Fuchu High School in Fuchu City, Tokyo, stating that “multiple workers at the construction site were complaining that they were not feeling well.”
According to the Metropolitan Police Department and the fire department, five male workers in their 20s to 40s complained of not feeling well and were taken to hospital, one of whom, a man in his 20s, was unconscious when was transported.
The five people were undergoing renovation work in the gym and complained that they felt ill after coming out from inside.
When police officers rushed to the scene, the temperature inside the gym was high, so they are investigating the situation in detail, considering the possibility of heat stroke.
The maximum temperature in Fuchu City by 2:00 pm on the 19th was 33.2 degrees, making it extremely hot.
