Mumbai to host IOC session | International Olympic Committee 2023 meeting in Mumbai; Venue Geo World Center

Mumbai will host the 2023 meeting of the International Olympic Committee. Mumbai was officially declared the host city for the next meeting by a vote in the IOC session 2022. A total of 82 IOC members were eligible to vote, of which 6 voted to abstain and 75 members voted in favor of Mumbai. Only one vote was cast against Mumbai for hosting the next IOC session.

The IOC session is a general meeting of the member countries of the International Olympic Committee. This is the highest summit of the IOC. It is at this meeting that important decisions, including the venue of the Olympics, are made. The 2023 IOC General Assembly will be held at the Geo World Center, Mumbai. “I am proud to be able to lead the Indian delegation to host such a prestigious Olympic Committee summit,” said Nita Ambani, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“This will be an important step in India’s dream of hosting the Olympics and the beginning of a new era in Indian sports,” she added.

“Sport has always been a beacon of hope and inspiration to millions of people around the world.”

“We are one of the youngest countries in the world today and I am excited for the youth of India to experience firsthand the magic of the Olympics. It is our dream to further strengthen this partnership and to host the Olympic Games in India in the years to come, ”she added.

Following the announcement, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took to Twitter to thank Nita Ambani for her “efforts to bring the 2023 session to Mumbai” and wrote: “It is no small matter that Mumbai is hosting the 2023 International Olympic Committee session. It is not only a matter of great pride, but also an opportunity to lead India on the sports horizon. Thank you Nita Ambani.

The 2023 IOC session is expected to select the host city for the 2030 Winter Olympics, which is likely to take place in May or June next year.

Earlier in 1983, India held an IOC session in New Delhi.
